14 sluice Gates of Hirakud Dam Opened to Release Floodwater from Reservoir

Sambalpur: Hirakud dam authorities opened eight more sluice gates on Saturday to release extra floodwater entering the reservoir. The gates were opened as the water level in the reservoir continued to rise following incessant rains in the upper catchment areas of the Mahanadi river.

With the opening of these eight gates, at present, the excess floodwater is being released through 14 gates from the Hirakud dam.

On Thursday six sluice gates of the dam were opened for the second time in the season, in view of increased water flow after incessant rains in Chhattisgarh.
