2 Kanwariyas Among 3 Run Over by Speeding Truck in Ganjam District

Berhampur: Three including two Kanwariaya pilgrims died when they were run over by a speeding truck near Dimiria village on NH 16  near Khallikote in Ganjam district on Saturday.

According to reports, the goods loaded truck was travelling to Kolkata from Andhra Pradesh. After running over the two Kanwariyas and another man, the truck overturned.

The two Kanwariyas died on the spot. The third man, identified to a daily wager succumbed to injuries at a hospital.

Police have seized the truck and detained its driver for interrogation.

One of the Kanwariyas killed in the accident was identified as Ranji Nayak of Banpur. The identity of the other dead Kanwariya has not been ascertained. The labourer killed in the accident was identified as Banamali Patra.

Although the truck overturned after the accident, its driver miraculously escaped unhurt.
