Rome: The ancient wreckage of a submerged Roman cargo ship has been found off the coast near Rome. It is estimated that the shipwreck may be over 2000 years old.

This ship was found off the Italian port of Civitavecchia on a sandy seabed at a depth of about 525ft.

The submerged ship is more than 20 meters long and dates back to 1st or 2nd century BC.

It was transporting hundreds of amphorae, a type of ancient Roman jar, which are mostly intact.

The relic was located and filmed using a remotely operated robot. Till now no decision has been taken whether any attempt would be made to recover it or its cargo from the bottom of the sea.
