Winemaker Drowns in Wine Vat in Italy

A 46-year-old winemaker Marco Bettolini drowned in a wine vat while trying to save his colleague in a winery in Italy, reported the New York Post.

This incident occurred at the Ca’di Rajo winery in the city of Treviso, around 2 pm on September 14.

Initially, Alberto Pin of the winery entered the autoclave of the vat after realising that the taps were not working properly. He inhaled some fumes from the fermentation and became sick.

Bettolini entered the vat to rescue Pin.

But Bettolini lost his balance due to the fumes and fell into the fermenting brew.

The 46-year-old was rushed to a hospital, where he died.

Both men were not wearing any breathing apparatuses or safety harnesses. They became prey to the carbon dioxide fumes that come out during the fermentation process in a winery.

Bettolini worked at the winery since 2018 and was a winemaker and cellar manager there. He worked as a consultant for various wine companies.
