5.0 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Indonesia

An earthquake of 5.0 magnitude on the Richter Scale struck off Indonesia’s eastern province of Papua on Thursday morning, reported Indonesia’s Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency.

The earthquake was felt at 01:29 am Jakarta time on Thursday (1829 GMT on Wednesday). The epicentre was located 46 km southwest of Keerom Regency with a depth of 62 km, reported Xinhua news agency.

No damage or casualties were caused by the quake. There was no tsunami alert because of this quake.

Archipelagic nation Indonesia is regularly shaken by earthquakes. It is located on a vulnerable quake-jolted area called “the Pacific Ring of Fire”.
