Rapist of Minor Girl Sentenced to 20-Yrs Jail by POCSO Court in Kandhamal

Phulbani: The ADJ-cum-Special POCSO court in Kandhamal district on Wednesday sentenced a man named Dushasan Pradhan (43), to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping a minor girl in Kandhamal district in 2019. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict.

Dushasan will undergo an additional one-year imprisonment in case he fails to pay the fine amount.

The convict had at first raped the girl at a village under Phiringia police limits of Kandhamal, while she was alone at a shop run by her father at their home on February 5, 2019. Later on, he had repeatedly raped the minor girl by threatening her with dire consequences. The victim was also impregnated by the convict.

The court also directed the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in Kandhamal to pay a compensation of Rs 11 lakh to the victim girl.
