2 Awarded 30-Yrs Jail Sentence for Raping Minor Girl in Ganjam Dist

Berhampur: Two persons were convicted and punished with 30-year imprisonment for raping a minor girl in Odisha’s Ganjam district.

Passing this order, the judge of a special POCSO court in Berhampur also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on the two convicts. The convicts, aged 35 and 25 years, will undergo an additional six months in jail if they fail to pay the fine amount.

The POCSO court also recommended payment of Rs 12 lakh to compensate the survivor through the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA).

According to reports, the two convicts had gang raped a 15-year-old girl of their village under Bhanjanagar police station on January 19, 2023. They had abducted the victim to a nearby jungle and sexually exploited her.

The accused were booked under different sections of the IPC and POCSO Act and were arrested on January 20, 2023.
