Man Sentenced Life Imprisonment for Rape of 9-Yr-Old Girl in Jajpur

Jajpur: Prakash Mallik of Binjharpur was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for 20 years by a Special POCSO Court in Jajpur for the rape of a minor girl.

The court also directed the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) to pay a compensation of Rs 7 lakh to the victim girl.

In 2022, the convict had lured a 9-year-old girl to accompany him by telling her that he would take her to her mother. But he raped the girl at an abandoned pump house.

Later the victim told her mother and the woman filed a complaint at Binjharpur police station. Following an investigation, police arrested Prakash.

The POCSO court verified 22 witnesses and other evidence to convict Prakash of the crime. Apart from the 20 years imprisonment, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 70,000 on the convict. In default of payment of the fine, the convict will have to undergo RI for 21 months more.
