9 Bangladeshis Caught While Entering Puri Jagannath Temple

Puri: Nine Bangladeshis, alleged to be non-Hindus were detained by the Police for their alleged unauthorized entry into the the Jagannath Temple in Puri. As per the norms of the temple, only Hindus are allowed to enter the shrine. Preliminary investigation suggests that four of the nine detainees entered the temple

According to police sources, these Bangladeshi nationals were detained on Sunday evening when some persons identified them as Bangladeshi non-Hindus inside the 12th-century shrine and lodged a complaint at the Singhadwar Police Station.

A police team reached the spot and detained the Bangladeshis for interrogation.

If they are found to be non-Hindu, action will be taken against them, as per law, Puri police officials said. Their passports are being verified. Police have found that one of the nine is a Hindu. The passports of the rest are being checked.
