Breach in Indravati Canal Floods Farm Land Houses in Kalahandi Dist

Bhawanipatna: Large patches of agricultural land and houses were flooded in areas of Kalampur block in Odisha’s Kalahandi district following a breach in the Indravati Right canal.

This around 20-foot-wide breach in the embankment of the canal occurred in the early morning on Monday. As the water flow increased the width of the breach started to increase.

According to reports, several houses in Deypur village under Kalampur block were flooded by the canal water following the breach. Local volunteers rescued the affected.

Around 5 feet high water is said to be flowing over the agricultural land and streets of Deypur village as well as its adjoining areas.

According to administrative officials, the concerned officials have initiated measures for immediate repair of the breach.

The administration has made arrangements to provide cooked food to families who have suffered losses due to the breach. The loss to the standing crops will also be estimated.
