5-Time Odisha MLA Arabinda Dhali Joins BJP Day After Quitting BJD

Bhubaneswar: Veteran Odisha legislator Arabinda Dhali joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday, a day after resigning from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD).

Dhali, a five-time MLA, cited dissatisfaction with the BJD’s leadership and direction as reasons for his departure. He expressed his concerns at a BJP induction event, criticizing the BJD’s alleged neglect of senior leaders and favouritism towards younger members.

Dhali, who represents the Jayadev Constituency in Bhubaneswar, highlighted his sense of betrayal within the BJD, claiming that despite his stature as an MLA, the party was considering other candidates for his seat. He accused the BJD of lacking internal democracy and opined that voters would respond accordingly. Dhali’s political journey spans several decades, initially serving as an MLA under the BJP banner before joining the BJD in 2009.

His decision to join the BJP comes as a significant development in Odisha’s political landscape. Dhali’s experience as a minister under Naveen Patnaik’s government adds weight to his defection, potentially influencing political dynamics in the state.
