Armed Robbers Loot Rs 18.80 Cr from Bank in Manipur

Imphal: A gang of masked armed robbers looted cash worth Rs 18.80 crore from a branch of the Punjab National Bank (PNB) in Manipur’s Ukhrul district, officials said on Friday.

The targeted PNB branch is the currency chest for the Ukhrul district. The currency chest is the place where the RBI stores cash meant for banks and ATMs.

The robbers carrying sophisticated weapons locked up the bank employees and the security personnel inside the washroom of the bank. One of the senior bank staff was compelled to open the vault at gunpoint. The looters took away the cash and escaped from the spot. , following which the robbers looted the money.

The police are investigating the case by examining CCTV footage to identify and track down the culprits.
