ASI to Start Repair of Natamandap of Puri Jagannath Temple from Today

Puri: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) will take up the repair work of the Natamandap (Dancing Hall) of the Jagannath Temple in Puri from Friday. According to sources, this repair work will continue till March 19.

The work will continue every day from 1 pm to 7 pm.

The details of the repair work were decided at a meeting of the Chhatisa Nijog on February 21. For the smooth conduct of the day-to-day rituals of the temple, it was decided dto open the Singhadwara of the temple at 2 am and the Ratra Pahuda ritual will be carried out at 11 pm.

The decision to repair the Natamandap of Srimandir was taken after Lawyer N K Mohanty, amicus curiae in the PIL on conservation of the Jagannath Temple, Puri, informed the Orissa High Court that the cracked beam inside the Natamandap needed immediate repair.

As part of the repair work, the ASI has decided to place a support beam under the cracked beam.
