Asian Games 2023: India’s Gold Dream Ends in Women’s Hockey, Lose to China 0-4 in Semifinal

New Delhi: India’s dream to grab the gold medal in women’s hockey in the Asian Games was shattered on Thursday. Despite being the favourite, India received a 0-4 drubbing at the hands of China in the women’s hockey semifinals.

This pushed the team out of the gold medal race in the Asian Games and also denied the team a direct entry to the Paris Olympics.

India will now play the loser of the second semifinal between Japan and South Korea in the bronze medal match on Saturday.

India won the silver medal in the last edition of the Asian Games.

Jiaqi Zhong (25th minute), Meirong Zou (40th), Meiyu Liang (55th) and Bingfeng Gu (60th) scored the goals for China.

China started on an attacking note putting pressure on the Indian defence from the start. The Indians continued to play defensive hockey and the ploy backfired.
