BJP Leader Killed by Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur Dist

Raipur: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Tirupati Katla was killed by Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Friday night. Katla is the first BJP leader murdered by Maoists this year and eighth since 2023.

The deceased was a Janpat Panchayat member and was living in Bijapur town. Katla was targeted by the Maoists at around 8 pm while he was returning to his home after attending a wedding in Toyanar village around 15 Km away. A group of naxals attacked him with sharp weapons. Seriously injured Katla was rushed to the Bijapur district headquarters hospital where he was declared dead.

In December 2023, Komal Manjhi a BJP worker was killed by Maoists in Narayanpur district. In November 2023, Ratan Dubey, 50, a BJP’s deputy chief in Narayanpur district, was murdered.
