BJP MLA Opens Fire at Sena Leader in Police Station in Maharashtra

Mumbai: BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad was arrested for firing at Mahesh Gaikwad, a leader of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena at a police station in Maharashtra on Friday night allegedly over a land dispute.

Ganpat Gaikwad is the MLA of the Kalyan East constituency in Kalyan, about 40 km from Mumbai.

According to police sources, two persons were injured in the firing.

This violent incident occurred when the two sides were at the Hill Line police station in Ulhasnagar over a land dispute. During a heated debate, the MLA opened fire at the Sena leader and his supporters. The injured were admitted to a local hospital.

Five bullets were taken out of the body of Mahesh Gaikwad, whose condition remains critical.

Ganpat Gaikwad, in an interview with a news channel, claimed that he opened fire in self-defence since Mahesh and his associates were misbehaving with his son.

The Shiv Sena split in 2022 after Eknath Shinde revolted against then-chief minister Uddhav Thackeray and formed the government with the BJP’s help. The Election Commission had last year ruled in favour of Mr Shinde over the party’s legacy.
