CBI Uncovers Evidence Linking Ex-RG Kar Principal Sandip Ghosh to Crime Scene Tampering: Reports

Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has uncovered a key document in the ongoing investigation of the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital. The document reveals that the former principal, Sandip Ghosh, issued instructions for renovation work in areas adjacent to the crime scene just a day after the victim’s body was discovered on August 9.

The victim’s body was found in the seminar room of the hospital. Investigating officers found a permission letter signed by Ghosh, dated August 10, directing the state public works department (PWD) to conduct renovation in a nearby room and toilet.

Initially, it was thought that the order came from an administrative official under Ghosh’s direction, but the letter suggests Ghosh himself was keen to expedite the work.

The incident sparked widespread protests from the hospital’s student community when state PWD staff attempted to begin the renovation work on the evening of August 13. The renovation efforts were halted due to the strong opposition from the students.

The CBI believes that the document, which demonstrates Ghosh’s keen interest in the renovation, could be instrumental in connecting the two parallel investigations being conducted by the agency: the rape and murder case and the financial irregularities at RG Kar. Ghosh is currently in CBI custody in connection with the financial irregularities case.

The medical fraternity in the state has been alleging that the incident at RG Kar was not an isolated case but rather a consequence of the victim’s knowledge of the irregularities within the hospital.
