Cheat Arrested in Berhampur for Duping Lakhs Through False Promise to Double Money in 5 Months  

Berhampur: A man named Mrutunjaya Padhy (27) was arrested by Odisha’s Berhampur police on charges of duping several gullible of lakhs of rupees through false promise to double the money in five months.

He was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by Satyanarayan Sasmal at Baidyanathpur police station in Berhampur on September 9. Investigation ascertained that the accused collected money from the complainant with an assurance to double it within 5 months. Through a similar lure, the arrested cheat had also collected money from several others.

The arrested fraudster had collected cash of Rs.27,50,000 from Sasmal and in return presented cheques from different banks that had insufficient balance.

The investigation also revealed that the accused collected cash Rs.20,00000 from one SK. Anwar of Khaja Street, Berhampur out of which he returned cash of Rs.12,00000 and misappropriated cash of Rs.800000.

He also collected cash of Rs.4,50,000 from one G.Sandeep Ku. Patra of Gandhi Nanar 3rd lane, Berhampur out of which he returned cash of Rs.2,50,000 and misappropriated the rest.

The accused received cash of Rs.500000, from one Somyaranjan Sahoo of Chandramanipeta street, Berhampur online, and in return he submitted bank cheque with insufficient balance.

The accused collected cash of Rs.8,00,000 from one Alekha Das of Nilanchala Sahi, 1st lane, Berhampur out of which he returned cash Rs.3,42,000 and misappropriated  the rest. He also took away Rs.20,00,000  from one Sandep Ku. Jena of Brahmanagar 1st lane, Berhampur.

The accused also misappropriated money from others which is under investigation.
