Death of 2 Elephant Calves In Similipal and Chandaka

Bhubaneswar: The death of two elephant calves occurred in two separate incidents in Odisha. An ailing elephant calf died in Chandaka during treatment on Sunday. The carcass of another elephant calf was recovered in the Similipal sanctuary in Mayurbhanj district.

According to reports, an ailing three-year-old elephant calf died in Chandka while undergoing treatment. It was being treated at the Chandka-Dampada Sanctuary’s Elephant Training Centre. The calf was brought to Chandaka from Deogaon in Bolangir district. Veterinary teams from Nandankanan and the OUAT were treating the ailing calf which was unable to eat or drink. The post-mortem of the baby elephant will be done on Monday.

In the other incident, the baby elephant’s body was found in the Jenabil forest range of ​​the Similipal Tiger Conservation Project on Sunday. An investigation revealed that the one-year-old baby elephant died of infection.
