Delhi Coaching Centre Deaths: Students Write to President Demanding Independent Inquiry

New Delhi: A group of civil services aspirants protesting at Old Rajinder Nagar have appealed to President Droupadi Murmu for an independent probe into the recent deaths of three students at a coaching centre. These students were killed in a flooded basement of Rau’s IAS Study Circle on July 27, following torrential rains.

In a letter addressed to President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday, the students articulated seven key demands, including a thorough investigation and support for the victims’ families. The letter stressed the need for accountability from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Public Works Department (PWD), and Delhi Jal Board (DJB) for their roles in the urban flooding that led to this tragedy.

“We seek a high-level, independent inquiry to uncover lapses by the MCD, PWD, DJB, and other relevant authorities in managing urban flooding in Old Rajinder Nagar,” the letter stated. The students also called for stringent measures to ensure public safety, enhanced disaster response protocols, and adequate compensation for the affected families.

Additional demands included the establishment of affordable libraries and regulatory guidelines for coaching institutes, particularly regarding paying guest accommodations and rental fees. The students urged the government to implement comprehensive urban planning to prevent future incidents.
