Vote Counting For Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim Assembly Polls Now On June 2, Not June 4

New Delhi: Day after the announcement of the schedule for the Lok Sabha Elections and assembly polls, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has made revisions to the counting dates for votes in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. The counting for the Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim Assembly polls will now be conducted on June 2 instead of the previously stated June 4.

This adjustment comes as the term of both legislative assemblies is set to conclude on June 2. Citing constitutional mandates such as Article 324, Article 172(1) of the Constitution of India, and Section 15 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the ECI has deemed it imperative to conduct the elections before the expiration of their respective terms.

It’s crucial to note that this alteration applies solely to the counting of votes for the assembly elections. There will be no modifications to the schedule for the parliamentary constituencies of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.

In line with the recent announcement, the 2024 Lok Sabha elections are slated to take place from April 19 to June 1, spanning seven phases. The declaration of results is scheduled for June 4.
