EC Issues Notices to Supriya Shrinate, Dilip Ghosh Over Controversial Remarks

New Delhi: The Election Commission has initiated action against Congress leader Supriya Shrinate and BJP’s Dilip Ghosh for alleged “insulting, offensive, and derogatory remarks against the honour and dignity of women,” according to reports.

Both Supriya Shrinate and Dilip Ghosh have been served show-cause notices, with a deadline set for their responses by 5 pm on March 29, as per the sources.

Supriya Shrinate faced criticism over a disparaging social media post directed at BJP’s Mandi Lok Sabha candidate, Kangana Ranaut. However, Shrinate clarified that the post was shared by someone with access to her social media account, amidst BJP’s criticism against her.

Meanwhile, Dilip Ghosh, former West Bengal BJP chief and current candidate for the Bardhaman-Durgapur Lok Sabha seat, faced backlash for mocking the family background of Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee.

In a video, Ghosh ridiculed Banerjee’s claim of being the ‘daughter of the state,’ remarking, “She should first decide who her father is.”

Ghosh further highlighted instances where Banerjee claimed to be the ‘daughter’ of various states she visited, such as Goa and Tripura, suggesting she should clarify her lineage before making such claims.
