English Teacher Allegedly Sexually Harasses Girl Student in Sambalpur, Detained by Police

Sambalpur: A teacher is alleged to have sexually abused a girl student in Bareipali in Odisha’s Sambalpur district. He was detained by police on Thursday for investigation.

The accused was identified as Arun Kumar Joshi, an English teacher at Kendriya Vidyalaya I in the Panchagachiya area within Bareipali police station limits.

As per the complaint lodged against him, two days back Joshi had asked all girls of the victim’s class to go out of the classroom and then misbehaved with her.

After returning home, the victim shared the ordeal with her family. This news spread around and the association of parents and guardians of the school approached the school chairperson for immediate stringent action against the erring teacher.

The school authorities informed the police and administration about the incident. As per the direction of the Sambalpur collector, sub-collector Puspanjali Panda and a female IIC reached the school to investigate. A case has been registered. Sub-collector Panda said, “We received complaint from both parents and school authorities today. We have initiated necessary action. An FIR has been lodged and exemplary action will be taken against the accused if found guilty.”
