Fishing Boat Capsizes Off Gopalpur Coast, Fisherman Killed

Berhampur: A fisherman drowned, while two of his associates had a narrow escape when their fishing boat capsized in the Bay of Bengal off Gopalpur coast in Ganjam district on Saturday morning.

The deceased was identified as B Bairagi (63), an inhabitant of Gopalpur. Two fishermen, who managed to save their lives, were M Balaraju and M Simudu. They could swim to the shore. According to the survivors, while they were fishing in the sea in the wee hours of Saturday, their boat was hit by a strong high wave. The boat overturned on Bairagi. His compatriots managed to salvage him and he was brought back to the shore in serious condition.

Bairagi was rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, where doctors declared him dead.
