Foreign Ministers of India, Canada Held Secret Meeting in Washington: Report

The Canadian Foreign Minister, Melanie Joly and India’s Minister of External Affairs, S Jaishankar, held a secret meeting in Washington some days ago to resolve the continuing row between the two countries over Canada’s allegation of India’s involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, reported British newspaper Financial Times.

The foreign ministries of both countries have not confirmed this meeting.

The report also mentioned that the Canadian government was making efforts to resolve the strained diplomatic situation with New Delhi.

The Canadian foreign minister had said earlier that they are trying to resolve the issue privately.

The relations between India and Canada became strained after Canadian PM Trudeau, On September 19, alleged a “potential” involvement of Indian agents” in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia.

India dismissed the allegations, by calling the charges “absurd’ and “motivated.”
