Ganja Smuggling Kingpin Arrested While He Visited Bhubaneswar’s Jharpada Jail

Bhubaneswar: The kingpin of a ganja smuggling racket involved in transporting ganja from Odisha’s Malkangiri district to Mumbai was arrested by the personnel of the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Commissionerate Police.

Interestingly the accused identified as Rahul Sethi was arrested from the Jharpada jail premises. He was at the jail to meet his associates lodged in the jail.

Rahul was marketing the cannabis grown in Malkangiri district in other states under the brand name ‘Chitrakonda Ganja’ as most of it was grown in remote areas of Chitrakonda.

According to police sources, the gang led by Rahul was buying the ganja at Rs 5000 per kilogram from Malkangiri district and the contraband was being sold at around Rs 50,000 per kilogram in Mumbai, Delhi, Jharkhand and Bihar.

On February 11, the Special Crime Unit of the Commissionerate Police arrested three persons and seized three quintals of ganja worth Rs 30 lakh hidden in a car. But the mastermind of the racket, Rahul managed to escape.

Rahul fell into the hands of the police when he came to meet his arrested associates in the Jharpada jail. A car, two mobile phones and one iPhone were seized from his possession.
