Hemant Soren Dares to Quit Politics If Proven Guilty by BJP, Claims Raj Bhavan Involved in His Arrest

Ranchi: Arrested former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Monday dared the BJP to prove the corruption charges against him. He claimed that if the accusations were proved, he would quit politics.

During his speech in the Jharkhand Assembly as part of the confidence motion moved by his successor Champai Soren, the JMM executive president alleged that the Jharkhand Raj Bhavan was instrumental in his arrest as part of a conspiracy hatched by the Centre.

Hemant Soren said, “…on the night of January 31, for the first time in the country, a CM was arrested…and I believe that Raj Bhavan was also involved in this incident.”

“I have been arrested on charges of 8.5 acre land scam. If they have the courage, then show the documents of the land registered in my name. If it is proved, I will quit politics…,” he added.

“We have not yet accepted defeat. If they think they can succeed by putting me behind bars, this is Jharkhand where many people have laid down their lives,” he said.

Ed officials arrested Hemant Soren under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA) with the allegation that he was among the key beneficiaries of the alleged land scam in Ranchi.

The PMLA court allowed him to attend the floor test of his successor Champai Soren-led JMM-Congress-RJD alliance government.
