India Planning New Airport in Lakshadweep for Civilian, Military Planes

New Delhi: India now envisions establishing a new airport at the Minicoy Island in the Lakshadweep for military aircrafts as well as commercial flights.

According to sources, this proposed joint airfield will be meant for fighter jets, military transport planes and commercial aircrafts.

Airport at Minicoy Island is an old proposal of the Indian Coast Guard that has been revived recently. This airport can be used by the Indian Air Force to enhance military surveillance in the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean region.

The proposed airport at Minicoy would also augment to the tourism prospects of Lakshadweep.

At present, Lakshadweep has an airstrip in Agatti and it can also limit the types of aircraft.
