BMC To Resume Stray Dog Sterilization Efforts Post High Court Nod

Bhubaneswar: In response to the escalating issue of stray dog incidents in Bhubaneswar, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to resume sterilization efforts aimed at controlling their population. The BMC is gearing up for the sterilization process following the lifting of a stay order by the Orissa High Court on Monday.

The sterilization initiative had been put on hold since July 2023 due to a High Court stay order, leading to a temporary suspension of actions to curb stray dog reproduction in BMC areas. Numerous complaints of stray dog attacks prompted the BMC to appeal for the revocation of the stay order, presenting its case in court during a recent hearing.

A senior official from the BMC disclosed that the sterilization program is poised to recommence soon, as the High Court has approved the BMC’s presentation.

Sterilization, a surgical procedure designed to prevent animals from reproducing, will be conducted on both male and female dogs. Apart from the primary goal of population control, this procedure offers various health benefits.
