Puri’s Golden Beach Set For A Glimmering Makeover

Puri: Puri, home to the revered Jagannath Temple and a golden beach recently honored with the prestigious ‘Blue Flag’ certification, is undergoing a significant makeover. The state government has initiated a major makeover for the picturesque beach, a prominent tourism treasure in the coastal state.

The government is spearheading a significant transformation, allocating Rs 102 crore for the enhancement of the 4.5 km beach road from Digabareni Street to Sterling Street.

Key initiatives include the expansion and revitalization of the beach road from Acharya Harihar Street to Digbareni Street, addressing the inadequate parking in Nalipadia by developing a three-story, 300-car capacity multi-level parking near Digbareni Street, and corresponding parking arrangements in Nalipadiya and Sipsarubali.

Landscaping efforts feature the planting of 6-foot tall casuarina trees to enhance the greenery without obstructing the sea view. A watchtower is also underway for tourists to enjoy panoramic sea views. The beach surroundings will see attractive lighting on promenades, ample public toilets, and drinking water facilities.

Improvements extend to a 5-foot wide granite footpath along the 4.5 km beach road, incorporating cobblestone for added visual appeal. Uniform kiosks, numbering 666 for traders and shopkeepers, emphasize cleanliness and stain prevention.
