It is ‘President of Bharat’ not India, Words on G20 Invite Creates Buzz

New Delhi: Droupadi Murmu’s invite to heads of state and chief ministers attending the weekend G20 summit described her as “President of Bharat” instead of the traditional “President of India”.

This sudden shift in the way the country is described on the international stage has led to speculations and discussions.

President Murmu invited G20 foreign leaders and chief ministers for a dinner on September 9. According to NDTV, the invite mentions, “President of Bharat” instead of “President of India”.

Neither the Rashtrapati Bahawan nor the Government of India has clarified the reason behind this change.  This is the first change of India’s nomenclature for any official event.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh reacted to it and wrote on X, “So the news is indeed true. Rashtrapati Bhawan has sent out an invite for a G20 dinner on Sept 9th in the name of ‘President of Bharat’ instead of the usual ‘President of India’,

Now, Article 1 in the Constitution can read: ‘Bharat, that was India, shall be a Union of States.’ But now even this ‘Union of States’ is under assault.”
