Jadavpur Univ Ragging Death: All 13 Accused Charged Under POCSO

Kolkata: All 13 accused arrested in the ragging-related death of a 17-year-old undergraduate student of Jadavpur University have been charged under the POCSO Act.

The accused were booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POCSO Act) as the boy was a juvenile and he was allegedly paraded naked in the hostel before he jumped off the balcony on August 9.

The homicide department of the Kolkata Police is probing this ragging death through a Special Investigating Team (SIT).

The West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights (WBCPCR) had also pressed for the accused to be booked under POCSO Act.

A 17-year-old student hailing from Nadia district died after allegedly falling from the second-floor balcony of the varsity’s main boys’ hostel on August 9 night. His family alleged that he had faced sexual harassment during ragging, which prompted him to end his life.
