Man Trying to Kill His Newborn Girl Arrested in Cuttack Dist

Bhubaneswar: A man named Manas Kar was arrested by police in Banki of Cuttack District on Tuesday for allegedly attempting to kill his own newborn girl child.

The arrested man also attacked his mother-in-law and father-in-law with an iron rod, when they tried to prevent him prevented him from killing the girl child.

Manas Baliapada village in Nayagarh district had married the eldest daughter of Nityanand Kar of Banki around 10 years back. The couple has an eight-year-old son.

For the delivery of her second child, Manas’ wife was with her parents in Banki. A week back she gave birth to a girl child, which irked Manas, as he wanted a boy.

After reaching his in-law’s house, he blamed his wife for giving birth to the girl child and allegedly tried to kill the newborn.

When his mother-in-law and father-in-law tried to stop him, they were attacked and critically injured by Manas.

Hearing the screams, villagers rushed to the spot and overpowered the son-in-law. He was handed over to police. The injured couple were admitted to a hospital.
