Money Lands in Accounts of Villagers from Unknown Source in Kendrapara

Bhubaneswar: Several customers of the Odisha Gramya Bank branch in Poriyali village under Aul block of Odisha’s Kendrapara district were astonished to get the news through SMS that a large amount of money had been credited to their accounts from “unknown sources”.

The amount of money credited to the customers’ accounts varied from Rs 10,000 to Rs 80,000.

A crowd of villagers including women rushed to the branch of Gramya Bank to withdraw the money credited to their accounts. The crowd soon became unmanageable at the small branch with few staff.

Initial inquiry hinted that the money was sent under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBI). But there were no details about the sender.

At first, the bank allowed some customers to withdraw the money. But later the branch stopped the payments. To investigate the source of the money credited to the account of these customers.
