Muslim Body Moves SC Against Allahabad HC Permission for ASI Survey at Gyanvapi Mosque

New Delhi: Muslim organization, Anjuman Intezamia Masjid committee on Thursday approached the Supreme Court against the Allahabad High Court’s permission for an Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) survey at the Gyanvapi mosque.

Seeking urgent hearing, the matter was mentioned by the advocate of the Muslim body before Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, who was heading a five-judge constitution bench hearing the arguments in the Article 370 issue.

One of the parties from the Hindu side has also filed a caveat in the apex court saying that no orders be passed without hearing them in the matter.

Earlier on Thursday, the Allahabad High Court ruled that the Archaeological Survey of India should continue its survey to determine if the Gyanvapi Mosque in Varanasi was built on a temple or not.

The Gyanvapi Masjid committee had challenged the survey of the mosque adjacent to the famous Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi.

Allahabad High Court has said that the ASI survey of the Gyanvapi mosque complex will start. Sessions court order is upheld by the High Court.
