Now Indians Will Make UPI Payments in Rupee in France, Even at Eiffel Towers

India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) will now be available in France marking India’s dominance in the digital payments space. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday announced in Paris that both India and France have reached an agreement to utilise the UPI in France.

In his address to the Indian community at the La Seine Musicale of Paris, PM Modi said very soon Indian tourists will be able to make payments in rupees using UPI while standing atop the iconic Eiffel Tower.

France has entered an agreement for the use of India’s UPI. It will be started from the Eiffel Tower in the coming days.

In 2022, the National Payments Corporation Of India (NPCI), the umbrella organisation that offers UPI services, signed an MoU with France’s fast and secure online payment system, called Lyra.

The UAE, Bhutan, and Nepal have already adopted the UPI payment system.

In 2023, UPI and Singapore’s PayNow signed an agreement, allowing users in either country to make cross-border transactions. NPCI International is in talks to extend UPI services in the US , other European countries and West Asia.
