PM Modi Proposes India as Host for COP33 in 2028, Announces Green Credit Scheme at UN Climate Conference

Dubai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed hosting the UN Climate Conference in 2028 (COP33) during his address at the high-level segment of the UN Climate Conference in Dubai. He launched the Green Credit Initiative, emphasizing people’s involvement in creating carbon sinks. PM Modi highlighted India’s exemplary balance between development and environmental conservation.

India is on track to meet its Nationally Determined Contributions, aiming to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. PM Modi, the sole leader in the opening plenary, stressed the importance of a just and inclusive global energy transition. He urged affluent nations to share technology to aid developing countries in combating climate change.

Championing the Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE movement), PM Modi urged nations to adopt planet-friendly practices, citing a study by the International Energy Agency predicting a 2 billion-tonne reduction in carbon emissions. PM Modi emphasized the need for collective participation to protect everyone’s interests in the fight against climate change.
