PM Modi Joins Virtually to Witness Chandrayaan-3’s Historic Moon Landing

Johannesburg: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has virtually joined the ambitious Chandrayaan-3 lunar mission as it embarks on a groundbreaking attempt to land on the Moon’s uncharted south pole. While on an official visit to South Africa for the 15th BRICS summit, PM Modi remains engaged with this significant milestone for India’s space exploration.

Scheduled for a touchdown near the lunar south pole at 6.04 pm, Chandrayaan-3’s Lander Module (LM), comprising the lander Vikram and rover Pragyan, aspires to master the intricate technology of soft-landing on challenging lunar terrain. If successful, India will become the fourth nation to achieve this feat, following in the footsteps of the US, China, and the former Soviet Union.

As the excitement mounts, reassurances from the Indian space agency indicate that all systems aboard the spacecraft are operating optimally, minimizing potential contingencies during the crucial landing phase.

This mission represents India’s second endeavour to conquer lunar challenges, following the setback of Chandrayaan-2 in 2019 when the lander ‘Vikram’ faced anomalies during its attempted touchdown.
