Pregnant Woman Set on Fire by Mother and Brother in UP

Lucknow: A 23-year-old pregnant woman was allegedly set on fire by her mother and brother at Nawada Khurd village in Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.

The critically injured woman with 70 per cent burns to her body was admitted to a state-run hospital in Meerut in critical condition.

The woman’s mother and brother were taken into custody by the police.

According to police, the woman, who is unmarried, became pregnant because of physical relations with a young man from the same village.

When her family members came to know about her unmarried pregnancy, they were enraged. On Thursday, September 28, the woman’s mother and brother took her to a nearby forest where they sprinkled petrol on her and set her on fire.
