President Murmu Addresses Nation On Eve Of 78th Independence Day: Key Highlights

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu delivered a powerful address to the nation on the eve of India’s 78th Independence Day, from the Rashtrapati Bhavan. In her speech, she extended warm wishes to all citizens and reflected on the significance of the day.

Drawing parallels between family celebrations and national festivities, President Murmu emphasised that Independence Day, like other festivals, is celebrated with the collective spirit of the entire nation. She highlighted the observance of Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s birth anniversary as Tribal Pride Day, noting that the upcoming 150th anniversary would provide an opportunity to honour his contributions to the nation’s renaissance more profoundly.

The President also observed Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, acknowledging the pain and loss experienced during the Partition. She paid tribute to the millions who were displaced and those who lost their lives, stressing the importance of remembering this unprecedented human tragedy as a prelude to celebrating Independence Day.

Reflecting on India’s progress, President Murmu remarked on the nation’s journey over the past 75 years, which has been marked by adherence to the constitutional ideals of justice, equality, liberty, and fraternity. She expressed pride in India’s achievement of becoming the world’s fifth-largest economy and noted the potential to soon be among the top three. This success, she said, is a testament to the hard work of farmers, workers, policymakers, and entrepreneurs, along with visionary leadership.

In her address, the President praised the nation’s farmers for their invaluable contributions to making India self-reliant in the agricultural sector. She also highlighted India’s strengthened global role, particularly following its successful G-20 presidency, positioning the country as a vocal advocate for the Global South.

President Murmu stressed the importance of inclusivity in every aspect of social life, advocating for the rejection of discord based on social strata and the strengthening of affirmative action. She also focused on women’s empowerment, lauding the implementation of schemes centred on women and the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, which aims to ensure their real empowerment.

Concluding her address, President Murmu urged all citizens to take part in the global fight against climate change by making small but impactful changes in their lifestyles, reaffirming India’s commitment to leading efforts to save the planet from the severe effects of global warming.
