Private Bus Strike in Undivided Koraput Against LAccMI Scheme

Koraput: Private bus owners took up a 24-hour strike in Odisha’s undivided Koraput region to protest against the State Government’s Location Accessible Multimodal Initiative (LAccMI) scheme.

Private buses remained off-road in Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada and Nabarangpur districts affecting the passenger traffic.

The private bus owners alleged that the Odisha government is implementing the LAccMI scheme by acquiring old vehicles from a Gujarat-based company. Private bus owners said they will suffer losses because of this scheme.

Following this agitation in the undivided Koraput district, the private owners’ association has planned to launch a statewide protest on October 10.

The LAccMi scheme aims to provide bus services between gram panchayats and block headquarters. It is being launched in undivided Koraput, Gajapati and Kalahandi districts in the first phase from October 2.

The government has planned to deploy two buses in each block under the LAccMI scheme.
