Panjab University Allows Menstrual Leave for Students

Chandigarh: The Panjab University in Chandigarh has announced to make provisions to provide menstrual leaves to female students. The menstrual leaves can be availed from the upcoming semesters for 2024-25 academic session.

As per the proposal approved by the vice chancellor of Punjab University, the students can take one off “per calendar month of teaching where teaching has taken place for at least 15 days.” The students will be allowed to take a maximum of four days of leave per semester, with the leave day limited to teaching days.

The students will have to fill out a form at the department office in order to avail the leave, which has to be approved by the chairperson/Director.

The notice mentioned that the leave will be granted on the basis of self-certification by the student and it must be applied for within five working days of her absence.

“The number of lectures actually delivered on that particular day be added to the total lectures attended by the student compiled at the end of each month,” the notice stated.

The leaves cannot be availed during any examinations.
