Singapore Hangs Third Drug Trafficking Convict in A Week

A 39-year-old man Mohamed Shalleh Adul Latiff, who was convicted of trafficking heroin, was hanged till death in Singapore on Thursday. It was the fifth hanging in Singapore this year and the third one in just over a week.

Mohamed Shalleh Adul Latiff was sentenced to death for possessing around 55 grams of heroin in 2019.

He is the 16th prisoner executed in Singapore since the government resumed capital punishment in March 2022 after a two-year pause during the Covid-19 pandemic.

On Friday, Singapore hanged Saridewi Binte Djamani (45), the first woman in nearly 20 years for drug trafficking. She was caught trafficking around 30 grams of heroin.

Two days before, Mohd Aziz bin Hussain (57) had been hanged for trafficking about 50 grams of heroin.

The United Nations and several other organizations denounced the hangings and called for Singapore to impose a moratorium on the death penalty.
