Stormy Chaos at Start of Odisha Assembly Session, House Adjourned

Bhubaneswar: Ruckus by opposition parties Congress and Biju Janata Dal over issues pertaining to the college union election and inaction against the Governor’s son led the Speaker to adjourn the House till 11:41 am, just minutes after the session commenced for the second phase of the Odisha Assembly’s continuing Session.

This Assembly session began with the House paying tributes to former Jashipur MLA Sundar Mohan Majhi.  Chief Minister Mohan Majhi moved a condolence motion, which opposition party leader Pramila Mallik supported. After the House observed a minute of silence to pay respects to the departed leader, a ruckus erupted as Congress and BJD members shouted over two separate issues, leading to the stalling of proceedings.

The Congress party MLAs demanding the holding of college union elections, which have been delayed for a long time.

The BJD legislators created furor over inaction against the Governor’s son who reportedly assaulted assistant section officer Baikuntha Pradhan.
