Superstitious Family Brands Elderly Man With Red Hot Iron to Cure TB in Gajapati

Paralakhemundi: An elderly man was branded with a red hot iron by his superstitious family members in the name of curing illness at Guluba village in Gajapati district on Tuesday.

The seriously injured victim, identified as Junasa Kandha was suffering from tuberculosis. When he did not show any major improvement after taking herbal remedies as well as modern medicines, his superstitious family members branded him with a piece of red hot iron to cure the illness.

But the burn injury was too serious and the victim was admitted to the Mohana Community Health Centre following the intervention of the local Sarpanch. He was later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur as his condition deteriorated.
