Tamil Cine Star Vijay Launches Political Party Tamizha Vetri Kazhagam (TVK)

Chennai: Tamil cine star Vijay launched a political party in Tamil Nadu named Tamizha Vetri Kazhagam (TVK). He was named the party chief. “Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam” means “Tamil Nadu Victory Party.”

It is expected that Vijay and his party will enter electoral politics ahead of the Tamil Nadu assembly elections in 2026.

Vijay informed that his party will not contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and it will also not support any other party. This decision was taken in the general council and executive council meetings of the party, he said.

In the past Tamil Nadu politics has seen late veterans MG Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa, who entered politics from the cine world.

Seen as the next Rajinikanth of Tamil cinema, Vijay has acted in 68 films. He always groomed his political ambitions through his fan clubs, charity and welfare measures including free distribution of food, educational scholarships, libraries, evening tuition, and legal support.

Some of Vijay’s films have also taken controversial stands in targeting governments over the years.
