UP’s BJP MLA Found Guilty of Raping Minor Girl in 2014

Lucknow: A local court in Sonbhadra in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday convicted BJP MLA Ramdular Gond on Tuesday for raping a minor girl in 2014. The punishment would be pronounced on December 15.

Gond, who is the MLA from the Dudhi assembly seat in UP, was found guilty by the Additional District Judge (First), MP/MLA Court. Following the conviction, the BJP MLA was sent to judicial custody.

The MLA was booked under sections 376 (rape), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 5L/6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The incident occurred when the MLA’s wife was the gram pradhan. Following a complaint by the victim’s brother, a case was registered against Gond in the Myorpur Police station. Initially the trial of the case was continuing in the POCSO court, as Gond was not an MLA at the time of the crime. But when was elected as a MLA, the case was transferred to the MP-MLA Court.
