Rs 60 Lakh Extortion Attempt by Fake Maoists in Rayagada, 4 Including 2 Women Arrested

Rayagada: Four persons including two women were arrested in the Rayagada district on Tuesday on charges of extortion in the name of Maoists. These miscreants had no links with the naxalites, but were trying to make some easy money by attempting extortion by posing as Maoists.

This gang of fake Maoists was nabbed following a complaint lodged by one Paramanand Naik of Dimundi village under the Doraguda police station.

Naik registered a complaint at the Doraguda police station when he received a letter on a Maoist pad demanding Rs 60 lakh, which was followed by a threatening call.

Police investigation led to the identification and arrest of Jaswant Naik and Barsha Naik of Mandal village under Kalampur police limits in Kalahandi district, Ramesh Naik of Maligaon under Kashipur police station and Kalyani of Brajrajnagar in Jharsuguda.

The police recovered four mobile phones and two fake Maoist letter pads from their possession.
