Ahmedabad: In a high voltage World Cup showdown at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi stadium on Saturday, India emerged victorious against Pakistan, securing a seven-wicket win. Skipper Rohit Sharma played a pivotal role, scoring 86 off 63 balls. India’s triumph marked their third consecutive victory in the tournament, while Pakistan faced their first defeat after two initial wins.

Notably, with this victory, India also extended their remarkable streak of eight consecutive World Cup wins against Pakistan.

The match began with India opting to field first, and their bowlers put up an impressive display, dismissing Pakistan for a total of 191 runs.

The trio of fast bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Hardik Pandya, claimed two wickets each. Spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja also made significant contributions, both securing two wickets. Pakistan’s innings concluded in 42.5 overs.

Pakistan’s Skipper Babar Azam top-scored for his team with a half-century, making 50 off 58 balls, while Mohammad Rizwan contributed 49 runs off 69 balls. However, from a promising position of 155 for two, Pakistan’s batting line-up faltered, ultimately being bowled out for 191.

In the chase, India showcased their batting prowess, successfully reaching the target in just 30.3 overs, much to the delight of the packed crowd at the Narendra Modi Stadium. This victory solidified India’s position as a strong contender in the tournament and added another chapter to their storied history against Pakistan in World Cup matches.
