Hefty 28% GST on Online Gaming from October 1

New Delhi: The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) will implement a 28 per cent Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate on online gaming from October 1.

CBIC Chairman Sanjay Agarwal said, “We are ready to implement a 28 per cent GST rate on online gaming from October 1 with the consent of all the states. The law for GST rate on online gaming will have to be passed by the assembly of states.”

On August 11, the Lok Sabha, passed bill to make legislative changes to introduce a 28 per cent GST for online gaming, casinos, and horse racing.

This legislative action was based on the decision made by the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council during its 51st meeting on August 2.
